Welcome to the Jin group at ICReDD, Hokkaido University! 

Our group is interested in the design and exploration of molecular dynamics in the solid state that bear specific functions.  The key strategy to achieving this goal is a utilization of cutting-edge crystalline engineering technology and knowledge in modern organic synthesis and computational chemistry. Furthermore, concepts and practices of data science are implemented to guide our efforts in the design of molecular motion in crystals and in understanding solid state functions. Current research topics in our group include organic and organometallic molecules with crystal engineering and photo-physical properties in solid state.

About Mingoo Jin

Mingoo was born in Suwon, South Korea in 1989. For undergraduate, he moved to the Japan and obtained his B.S. degree from Hokkaido University in 2014, where he conducted his undergraduate research with Prof. Toyoji Kakuchi on the synthesis of functional organic polymers, and he was a Korea-Japan Joint Government Scholarship Fellow during his B.S. degree program. He then joined the laboratory of Prof. Hajime Ito at Hokkaido University for his PhD study, where in his thesis work he developed an external stimuli-responsive emission of molecular crystals via Au(I) complexes. Upon completion of his PhD in 2018, he moved to University of California Los Angeles to work with Prof. Miguel A. Garica-Garibay as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, where he developed a series of luminescent amphidynamic crystals based on dumbbell shaped Au(I) complex rotors as well as a novel molecular gears. Afterwards, he joined the Institute for Chemical Reaction Design and Discovery (WPI-ICReDD) as a specially appointed assistant professor in Prof. Hajime Ito’s group from 2019. In 2022, Mingoo began his independent career at WPI-ICReDD in Hokkaido University in Sapporo, Japan.
