Single-molecule nanospectroscopy

Single-molecule nanospectroscopy
Iwasa and Taketsugu, in collaboration with Imada, Imai and Kim (Surface and Interface Science Laboratory, RIKEN),  have developed a precision nano-spectroscopy method with micro–electron volt energy resolution and submolecular spatial resolution by combining a scanning tunneling microscope with atomic resolution and a narrow-line tunable laser. Using this technique, they succeeded in identifying chemical species, discovering a linear Stark effect that occurs in nanospace, and elucidating its mechanism.
