Summer course on Recent Advances in Photocatalytic Organic Reactions and Solid-state Photochemistry

Hokkaido Summer Institute (HSI) 2025 is offering a special course: Recent Advances in Photocatalytic Organic Reactions and Solid-state Photochemistry.

This course will feature Professor Robert R. Knowles, a leading expert in photochemical reactions at Princeton University. He will deliver lectures covering the fundamentals and applications of radical reactions using photocatalysts, as well as the latest advances in photocatalytic technology. In particular, the reaction development using Proton-Coupled Electron Transfer (PCET), which he pioneered, has been applied to a wide variety of photochemical reactions, demonstrating a high degree of versatility. The course aims to teach students the fundamental principles of photoredox catalysis and how to apply them in the design and optimization of chemical reactions. Through detailed case studies, the course will provide a comprehensive understanding of its application. By the end of the course, students will acquire the knowledge to develop sustainable chemical processes and tackle challenging molecular transformations that have been difficult to achieve with traditional methods.

The course will take place from 10/Jun/2025 – 12/Jun/2025 and both students and non-students can register for this course.
