The 17th issue of “The CATALYST” quarterly news poster has been released!
In this issue the theme is “Designing crystals that spin”.
The word crystal means something that is made up of atoms, ions or molecules arranged in an orderly, repeating pattern. Crystals can be found all around us, in substances like salt, sugar, and gemstones such as diamonds.
This time, we will introduce how crystals are formed and the movement of atoms within molecules in a crystal. While molecules in a crystal are often thought to be fixed and immobile, ICReDD successfully designed a molecule that can move even in a crystal!
This issue also features information about the latest ICReDD’s news and a researcher profile of Associate Professor Jin Mingoo, who is working on the development of methods for enabling molecular gears to operate within solid, crystalline materials.
