On November 9, Ms. Harumi Takahashi, Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), visited Hokkaido University and toured our research facilities.
At the Creative Research Building of Hokkaido University, Prof. Takao Masuda (Executive Director, Vice President and Director of the Creative Research Institute), Prof. Satoshi Maeda, (Director of ICReDD), and Prof. Yasutaka Matsuo (Director of the Green Nanotechnology Research Center, Research Institute for Electronic Science) each gave an overview of their respective research institute’s concept and activities.
After the introduction of each research center, Ms. Takahashi was guided through each of the research facilities.
From ICReDD, Specially Appointed Assistant Professor Nobuya Tsuji and Specially Appointed Associate Professor Yuuya Nagata introduced the latest research equipment in their mixed laboratory, including an automated robotic chemical synthesis system that enables rapid verification of new reactions.
After the visit, a round-table discussion between Ms. Takahashi and young ICReDD researchers was held at the ICReDD Salon.
The participants had a lively discussion about the excellent research environment at WPI-ICReDD and the current situation surrounding young researchers in Japan.
