研究概要

私の研究分野はランタノイド化合物による光化学です。一般的な遷移金属イオンとは異なり、ランタニドイオンは4f軌道に電子が存在し、磁性と光学特性を生み出しています。この4f軌道は、鉄、コバルト、またはニッケルなどに見られるdおよびπ軌道とも大きく異なっており、その深い理解には至っていないのが現状です。これらの研究には、基本的な物理学、化学、情報科学の組み合わせが必要です。

 ICReDDでは情報科学者の力を借りて、わずかの励起エネルギーで明るく発光する高量子収率の有用な発光材料、例えば熱感知材料および酸素感知材料を設計できればと思っています。

研究者の思い

料理は私の楽しみの1つです。化学者なので、美味しい料理には調味料の比率に気を配ることが重要だと思っています。他には、サイエンス・フィクション、特にアーサー C. クラークの作品を読むのが好きです。 私のお気に入りの本は、エイリアンが人々の心を結びつける宇宙の物語、「幼年期の終わり(Childhood’s End)」です。 このような物語がきっかけとなり、小学生の頃に科学者になりたいと思うようになりました。サイエンス・フィクションのおかげで光化学を専門にするようになりましたし、今も色んな刺激をもらっています。
