研究概要

私たちの研究室では、バイオマテリアルとしてハイドロゲルを用いて、細胞を制御する研究に取り組んでいます。ハイドロゲルは、モノマー分子の性質や構造により荷電や弾性率など様々な物理因子を持ちます。ある種のゲルは細胞に特徴的な変化を誘導します。例えば、がんの再発の原因の「がん幹細胞」は見つけ出すのに10日以上の長時間を要しますが、特殊なハイドロゲルは極めて短時間で、がん幹細胞を創り出します。このことは新しいがんの診断法や治療法の開発に繋がります。またある種のゲルは神経再生を制御することがわかってきてました。再生医療への応用が期待されます。

私達はICReDDの中で、ハイドロゲル研究の世界の第一人者のグン・チェンピン先生と協力して、新しい細胞生物学の世界を創り出します。また、情報科学、計算科学の先生方と協力して、新しい診断、治療法の開発を目指します。一連の共同研究の成果は「マテリアルゲノミクス」という新しい融合研究分野を生み出します。

研究者の思い

茶道に由来する「一期一会」という言葉は、人との出会いは一生に一度のチャンスであり、だからこそ大切にするべきだと教えてくれます。 私はこの言葉が好きで、研究室では日常の研究に加えて様々な行事を企画して、ラボメンバー間の交流を深めるようにしています。ICReDDでは、メンバーが自由に集まれる部屋があり、様々な交流がなされます。ミックスラボもあります。人との出会い、そこに融合研究が芽生えます。一期一会の考えを大事にして、芽生えた研究を大きく発展させたいと思います。
